Automobile Recall is Involved in Actor’s Death

car-85320_640Early in June, actor Anton Yelchin was found dead in his driveway in Studio City, California apparently because of a freak accident involving his Grand Cherokee. He was found DOA horrifically pinned between the brick pillar in his driveway and his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The entertainment world and film fans are shocked.

The 27-year-old actor was noted for his role in Star Wars and Star Trek Beyond, which ironically will be released on July 22.

Investigation shows that his vehicle was on a recall list because of a defective gear shift that would not engage in park. This defect would cause the vehicle to roll unexpectedly,

The defective vehicles did not give any indication that they were in the “safe-to-park gear,” and they don’t have the safety feature that automatically overrides the gears and places the car in park when the driver’s side door opens.

The Grand Cherokee does not have this feature, but many other car manufacturers do provide this. In any event, Yelchin had not had his vehicle serviced for the recall.

The volunteer recalls affected 2012-14 Dodge Chargers and Chrysler 300s, and 2014-15 Jeep Grand Cherokees. Lawsuits against the manufacturer of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have begun to emerge, along with a class action lawsuit because, which presently includes four plaintiffs who allegedly experienced the defective gear shift issue.

Defective products and parts in vehicles are often common class action lawsuits because they allow all affected to be covered. If you have experienced any injury because of a defective product, contact Potter Law Firm.
